Curious claims from Rebtel

Just picked up a press release from Rebtel. They claim that Truphone (incorrectly spelt as Truephone!) no longer offers free calling. Currently calls to non Truphone numbers attract a small charge but Truphone to Truphone calls are still (and guaranteed to be) free. That’s great when your colleagues or friends have Truphone numbers and can potentially save you a fortune.

Also, whilst the Rebtel ‘bit’ of the call is free, you still have to make a PSTN or mobile call to connect to Rebtel which in many instances will attract a charge, so suggesting Rebtel is free is a bit disingenuous.

I really like Rebtel, even if the call setup can be a little complicated, and I’ve blogged about them before but I do prefer to see the whole story represented.

The press release can be found here.

  1. Hey there, My name is Alex and I work at Rebtel. First of all thanks for the kind words and for mentioning us on your blog, we always enjoy being talked about :)Regarding your post you are absolutely right. You have to jump through a few hoops to make a Smart Call with us. Even still we would like to think that it’s well worth it if it means that you pay zero for the international leg of the call.We are constantly looking to make our services easier to keep an eye out :)Best regards, Alex
